Found singly or in schools, in sheltered bays, lagoons, seaward reefs, and around shipwrecks.
They feed on algae, invertebrates and plankton.
Juveniles can be found in schools, under floating debris and sargassum rafts, of protected inner reefs.

Batfish have a flattened profile, juvenile batfish are extremely tall finned, but as they grow they become more rounded.
